The National Quality Forum (NQF)

NQF serves as a consensus-based organization that endorses healthcare quality measures. NQF endorsement is considered the gold standard for quality measures in the United States. The endorsement process evaluates measures on four criteria: importance, scientific acceptability, feasibility, and usability. Measures must pass through a rigorous vetting process involving public comment periods and expert panel review.

AHRQ Quality Indicators

AHRQ developed a set of Quality Indicators (QIs) that use hospital administrative data to highlight potential quality concerns. These indicators fall into four categories: Prevention Quality Indicators (PQIs) measure ambulatory care sensitive conditions. Inpatient Quality Indicators (IQIs) reflect hospital quality of care. Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) identify potentially preventable complications. Pediatric Quality Indicators (PDIs) focus on quality measures for children.
